The
most common docking arrangement in places with limited dock space
is referred to as "Mediterranean style." This requires you
to determine the depth of the water, and then move away from the shore
the proper distance to accommodate the correct anchor scope. First,
drop your anchor off the bow and back slowly toward the dock. When
about a boat length from dock, make sure your anchor has a solid bite.
Then continue backing until you can attach your stern lines to shore-side
cleats or bollards. Take up tension on your anchor line so that your
bow doesn't swing. Hang fenders in case other boats tie up alongside
you. Be sure to have robust chafing gear
for the concrete Malecon, and don't forget a boarding plank or
ladder. |
